Thomas A. Thurston is a Principal in the Equities Division at Sandler O'Neill + Partners, L.P. He joined the firm in December 2001 to help rebuild and grow the equity trading desk.
Mr. Thurston is responsible for all equity trading at Sandler O'Neill, which currently makes approximately 400 NASDAQ names and trades all of the financial and insurance stocks traded on the New York Stock Exchange and American Stock Exchange.
Mr. Thurston is a member of Sandler O'Neill's Investment Policy Committee, which helps formulate the firm's outlook about the financial services sector, as well as its Research Initiation Committee, which reviews all aspects of the firm's Research Department.
Prior to joining Sandler O'Neill, Mr. Thurston was a Director of Equity Trading at Merrill Lynch & Co. and a 10-year veteran of the company. While at Merrill Lynch, he traded the stocks of NASDAQ-listed financial institutions and was instrumental in Merrill Lynch’s move to sector trading, working with an eight-person team trading all of the financial stocks across various markets.
Mr. Thurston holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Gettysburg College. He lives in Ridgewood, N. J., where he is active in community affairs, serves on the Boards of the Ridgewood High School Hall of Fame and The Jon C. Vandevander Memorial Foundation. He also coaches a variety of youth sports.
